How to Use the Editor Panel

3 min read

The editor panel lets you review and maintain a single piece of content while editing it. The panel is available in both the Block Editor and the Classic Editor.

Block Editor

Open a Post or Page

The panel appears inside the WordPress Block Editor for enabled post types.

Look for:

  • Content Maintenance

in the document sidebar.

What the Panel Shows

The panel displays:

  • current status
  • last reviewed date
  • next review date
  • current owner
  • maintenance action

This gives you a quick view of the content’s maintenance state while you edit it.

Change the Owner

Use the Owner field to assign responsibility for the content.

Clicking the owner name opens a dropdown to select a user. Only Editors, Administrators, and the post’s own author are listed. The change is applied when you save the post.

Choose a Maintenance Action

Use the Maintenance Action field when you want to update the content lifecycle state.

Available actions include:

  • Mark as Reviewed
  • Snooze Review
  • Archive Content
  • Unarchive Content

If you choose Snooze Review, additional options appear so you can choose the snooze duration or a custom date

Add a Note (Pro)

Note field appears below the action selector when:

  • a maintenance action is selected, or
  • the owner is changed

Use this field to record why the change is being made — for example, “Updated for Q2 campaign” or “Transferred to new team member”.

Notes are stored with the activity log entry and visible in the Activity Log screen and in the latest activity section of the panel.

Save the Post to Apply the Action

Maintenance actions are applied when you save or update the post.

This means you can:

  • choose the action
  • add an optional note
  • save the post
  • let the plugin apply the lifecycle update at save time

Latest Activity (Pro)

When the Show latest activity in the block editor panel setting is enabled (Settings > General), the panel shows the most recent activity log entry for the post.

This includes:

  • who made the change
  • when it was made
  • what fields changed (before and after values)
  • any note that was recorded

Classic Editor

When editing a post or page in the Classic Editor (or when the Classic Editor plugin is installed), a Content Maintenance meta box appears in the right sidebar of the edit screen.

What the Meta Box Shows

The meta box displays the same information as the block editor panel:

  • current status
  • last reviewed date
  • next review date

Owner

A dropdown lets you assign or change the owner. Only Editors, Administrators, and the post’s own author are listed.

Maintenance Action

A dropdown lets you choose a maintenance action to apply when the post is saved. If Snooze is selected, additional fields appear to choose the duration or enter a custom date.

Note (Pro)

A text area appears when a maintenance action is selected or the owner is changed. Use it to record why the change is being made.

Saving

All lifecycle changes are applied when the post is saved — no separate save step is required.
