The Settings page lets a site administrator control which post types show the frontend editor button, and customize how the button and panel look.
Getting Here
Go to Settings → Frontend Editor ACF in your WordPress admin. You need the Administrator role (or the Manage Options capability) to see this page.
Allow Post Types
Choose which post types show the Edit Fields button on the front end.
- Check the post types you want to allow (for example, Posts, Pages, or any custom post type on your site).
- Leave every box unchecked to show the editor on every post type that has ACF fields assigned – this is the default behavior.
- Click Save Settings.
Even when a post type is allowed here, the button still only appears on posts that have an ACF field group assigned and for users who have permission to edit that post. See Getting Started for the full list of requirements.
Panel Position
Choose whether the editor panel opens from the Right (default) or Left side of the screen. This also moves the floating Edit Fields button to the same side.
Default Panel Width
Set how wide the panel opens by default, from 280 to 520 pixels. Visitors can still drag the panel’s edge to resize it while it’s open – see Editing Fields – but this value controls the starting width.
Trigger Button Color
Click the color swatch to open a color picker and choose the color of the floating Edit Fields button. This is useful if the default blue clashes with your site’s theme.
Tips
- Changes take effect immediately for all users after you click Save Settings – no need to clear caches for most sites.
- If you don’t see the settings page, check that your user account has the Administrator role.
