In WordPress 6.2, a new navigator was introduced in the site editor, enabling users to easily choose the specific template or template part they wished to edit.
With the upcoming WordPress 6.3 update, the navigator will receive significant improvements, offering users the flexibility to select not only templates and template parts but also pages, styles, patterns, and navigation menus. This enhanced navigation feature promises to further streamline the editing process and provide users with greater control over their website customization.
New Command Palette
With the upcoming WordPress 6.3 update, a powerful new feature called the Command Palette is being introduced. It allows users to easily navigate through specific pages, templates, and template parts.
Simply press CTRL + K for Windows and Command + K for Mac users on your keyboard, then start typing your query, and the Command Palette will display matching templates, patterns, blocks, posts, and more.
Selecting an item from the results will instantly open it in the site editor, making it incredibly convenient to perform actions quickly. Alternatively, you can also open the Command Palette by clicking on the search icon at the top.
Easily Edit Page
The site editor introduces a user-friendly feature that simplifies the process of selecting “Pages” directly from the editor navigation menu.
Upon clicking on the “Pages” option, you will now see a convenient list of your most recently edited pages. This makes it effortless to start the resume work that you have been working on, saving you time and effort in navigating through your site.
You can also easily create a new page and start editing it in the site editor by simply clicking on the “+” button.
Patterns
Manage patterns in Site Editor
This version unfolds an improved and more user-friendly approach to handling patterns in the site editor. Now, all your patterns are easily accessible within the site editor.
To view the available patterns, click on “Patterns.” Here, you will find both Synced and Unsynced Patterns.
Unsynced Patterns are flexible patterns that can be inserted and modified at any time according to your requirements. Any changes made to them won’t impact the original pattern.
Synced Patterns, now referred to as “Synced patterns” (previously Reusable blocks), can be used across the entire website. Any changes made to these patterns will affect the original pattern. All your reusable blocks will now fall under this category and appear here.
To create a new pattern, click on the ‘+’ button in the patterns menu at any time.
For managing your custom patterns, access the sidebar and click on ‘Manage my Custom Patterns.’
More Curated Patterns
With the introduction of the “Curated” filter in the pattern directory, users can now easily distinguish between Core-bundled and community-contributed patterns.
New icon in Site Editor to View Page in New Tab
Exciting news! The site editor now allows you to preview your website directly. A convenient new icon beside the website name on the left side lets you effortlessly view your website in a new tab. This fantastic addition not only saves you time but also enables you to check the front end of your website right from the site editor. How convenient is that!
Caption Styling
In WordPress, theme authors now have the capability to design custom styles for Caption elements directly through theme.json. Once these styles are added, they become accessible in the Styles interface, empowering creators and users to customize captions effortlessly without the need to modify any code.

In the Styles menu, you can easily explore style variations in browse mode. This allows you to preview the different available styles, apply one you like, and make any desired customizations.

Enhancement In Image Block Settings

Footnote

Unlike a traditional insertable block, Footnotes are activated by highlighting the desired text within a block and then selecting More > Footnote from the context menu.

Improvement In the Top Toolbar
In WordPress 6.3, the “Top toolbar” in the editor has undergone improvements to optimize the limited space available and accommodate browser viewport width limitations more effectively.
Previously, the block toolbar used to be added on an additional level at the top, occupying more space. However, in the new version, the block toolbar will be positioned within the same top panel, streamlining the user interface and avoiding unnecessary space consumption.
