Example of Creating a Coupon

Let’s say you have an online shop where people buy things. Right now, you’re giving everyone a discount of 25%. So, you can give them a code like “SAVE25.” Once the code is applied, the price of the product will automatically decrease by 25%.

If you look further down, you’ll find the settings for Coupon Data. You just need to provide some additional details about the coupon code there.

Customize the General Section of WooCommerce Coupon Code

  • Choose the type of discount you prefer from these options: percentage discount, fixed cart discount, and fixed product discount. Here’s what each means.
    • Percentage Discount: This means giving customers a discount based on a percentage of the total cost of everything in their shopping cart, excluding any extra fees like shipping or taxes. For instance, if you enter ’30’, users will get a 30% discount off their entire cart.
    • Fixed Cart Discount: When you offer a fixed discount amount, it means a specific amount of money will be taken off the total cost of the items in the shopping cart. For example, if the discount is $20 and the subtotal is $200, the customer will only need to pay $180 after the discount is applied.
    • Fixed Product Discount: A fixed discount amount is a set reduction in the price of a product. Let’s say there’s a fixed discount of $10 on a certain item. For instance, if a product has a fixed discount of $10, then when you add that item to the cart and apply the discount, $10 will be subtracted from the total cost.
  • Next, enter the discount amount in the “Coupon amount” field. This is how much money your customers will save when they use the coupon.
  • After that, check the Allow Free Shipping option if you want to allow your customers both the use of discount codes and free shipping.
  • If you want to set an expiration date for the coupon, you can choose a date from the calendar. This means customers can only use the coupon before that date. Once the coupon expires, it won’t work anymore.

Set Usage Restriction of WooCommerce Coupon Code

After you’ve set up the general settings, there’s a tab called “Usage restriction.” Here, you can decide how your coupons can be used for the products in your online store. WooCommerce gives you lots of choices for this.

  • Set the minimum and maximum amount that a user needs to spend for the coupon to work. This means the discount only applies if the purchase falls within that range.
  • You can choose whether the coupon can be used with other coupons or not. If you don’t want it to be combined, check the box for “Individual use only.”
  • If you don’t want the coupon to be used on items already on sale, turn on the “Exclude Sale Items” option.
  • If you want, the coupon code will be used for all the items in your WooCommerce store. Just leave the fields for specific products or categories empty.
  • But, if you want to apply the coupon only to certain products or categories, then you need to select those products or categories in the appropriate fields.
  • You can also specify which email addresses can use the coupon in the “Allowed emails” field.

Set Usage Limits of WooCommerce Coupon Code

The “Usage Limits” tab is where you set rules for how a coupon code can be used in your WooCommerce store. It includes.

  • Set a limit on how many times this coupon can be used overall. This prevents people from using it too many times.
  • Decide how many items the coupon will apply to when using Product Discount. If you leave it blank, it’ll be applied to every product in the cart.
  • Choose if you want to limit how many times one person can use the coupon. If you don’t set a limit, they can use it as many times as they want.
  • Once you’ve filled in all the details, publish the coupon.

Test Coupon Code

Now, let’s test the coupon code. Go to the store, pick a product, and add it to your cart. Then, use the coupon code to get a discount. The original price of the product is 12,000, but with the coupon, you will get 2,000 off. So, instead of paying 12,000, you’ll only have to pay 10,000.
